About the Gold Nugget Triathlon
“A Women’s Fitness Event Encouraging Women of All Ages and Abilities to Participate”
At the heart of the Gold Nugget Triathlon (GNT) is a mission to improve the lives of women and girls through athletics.
Our Organization
The Gold Nugget Triathlon is managed by a dedicated volunteer board of directors committed to advancing sports for women of all abilities. A volunteer race committee works closely with Race Directors to coordinate event logistics and details, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for participants.
A Transformative Event
The Gold Nugget Triathlon is more than just a race—it’s a journey of empowerment and transformation. Many participants use the event as a starting point for new fitness routines, with mothers, daughters, friends, and colleagues training together throughout the year. This shared commitment often becomes a life-changing experience, fostering connections and personal growth.
Our History
Founded in 2003, Gold Nugget Triathlon, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to hosting this annual event and supporting other athletic initiatives. Our entirely volunteer board, with no paid positions or monetary compensation, oversees the race and related activities.
To ensure the success of the triathlon, we contract professionals for key services such as race management, timing, traffic control, and course logistics. On race weekend, hundreds of additional volunteers contribute their time and energy to create a memorable and successful event for participants and spectators alike.
Giving Back to the Community
As a not-for-profit organization, GNT relies on tax-deductible donations to stage this high-quality event. In years when the race generates a surplus, funds are reinvested to support our mission and help other organizations.
We’ve provided financial assistance for participants facing entry fee barriers and donated to initiatives such as:
- High school triathlon teams
- Triple Patch events: Ski for Women, Bike for Women, and the Alaska Run for Women
- Girls on the Run
- Diabetes organizations
- Running Free Alaska
- Let Every Woman Know
- “Fast & Female”
- Other women-focused non-profits
Visit our Charity Page for more information about the organizations we’ve supported.
Thank You to Our Volunteers and Supporters
The Gold Nugget Triathlon would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our supporters. Together, we make this event a celebration of fitness, empowerment, and community for women of all ages and abilities.
