Kickstands are NOT allowed because they are too unpredictable. With over 1,600 bikes in T1, if one bike goes down, the entire row is likely to go down. If we find a stand that isn’t safe, we will pull the bike from transition.

Make sure you have a well-built, solid bike stand to keep your bike upright in the transition area. Please decorate it for a little inspiration and to make your transition slot easier for you to spot.

Bike stands will be available for purchase at the Saturday bike drop-off for  $20 (price may change). The APU Nordic Ski Center builds the stands as a fundraiser. If your existing or homemade stand is not very steady, you may want to consider purchasing a sturdy bike stand at Saturday’s bike drop or one of the bib pick ups. Bring one of your bike wheels as they offer three different sizes.

If you build your own bike stand, note that all transition spaces are about 26″ wide and 8′ long.

Number tattoos

Use one strip on your upper right arm and one on your lower left leg.

It is suggested to apply the race number tattoos the night before the race. If your tattoos are smudged, use a Sharpie for touch ups.

Larger sticker

The larger bike frame sticker number goes on the seat stem, rear stay, or tube.

Smaller sticker number

The other two identical adhesive numbers go on your bike helmet (just above your forehead), and on the front of your bike stand that will be kept in the T1 bike corral at Bartlett High School. If the sticker does not adhere to the wood of your bike rack, use a sharpie to write your number.

Number bib

The bib must be worn on your body during the run. Move the bib so it faces forward as you enter the finish chute. This bib must be worn in the front so it may be easily seen as you run down the finish chute. You do not wear it during the swim and you do not need to wear this bib during the bike leg.

All instructions above will be explained on the envelope that you receive at packet pick-up or ask one of our friendly volunteers for assistance.

Timing chip

At packet pick-up, you will receive a timing chip. Each chip has a unique number assigned to your bib number to accurately provide split times and final finish times. You will wear the chip in the pool, on the bike, and on your run. Once you put the chip on, you should not take it off until you have crossed the finish line. You need to put the chip on your left ankle BEFORE you start your swim. These are disposable chips; so, unlike some events, we will not collect them after the race. You may take your chip off and throw it away or keep it as a souvenir. You keep the neoprene ankle strap from one of our major sponsors.

We highly recommend that you do not wear your chip the remainder of the day or go near any of the timing mats with your bib on before your race starts or after your race is complete.

Can I give my timing chip and bib to a friend?

Race numbers and chips are non-transferable. Transferring your number and/or chip to another participant and/or receiving a transferred number and/or chip will result in disqualification from this and future races. This is a USAT rule and you may be banned by future USAT sanctioned racers if you give your timing chip and number to someone else.
