Unauthorized accessories and equipment
GNT abides by all rules set forth by USAT. We get a lot of questions about listening to music, using headphones, and carrying phones during the event. The rules below are specified in section 2.1 of the USAT rules regarding such equipment.
At or during an event, or while at the event site, all participants must not use any equipment that will distract the athlete from paying full attention to their surroundings.
- Athletes may not use communication devices of any type, including but not limited to mobile phones, smart watches for communication in any distractive manner during the competition.
- A “distractive manner” includes but is not limited to the use of headphones, two-way radios, the making and receiving of phone calls, sending and receiving text messages, playing music, using social media and taking photographs.
- Mere possession of a mobile phone or smart watch shall not constitute the use of illegal equipment in a distractive manner.
- Using a communication device in a distractive manner during the competition may result in disqualification.
